 The Mason and Eleanor McConnell Memorial Chapel located at the Edinburg Cemetery.
The chapel was dedicated on Memorial Day 2008 during a ceremony following the Edinburg Memorial Day Parade. Mason and Eleanor McConnell lived and served our community for many years. They operated the McConnell Fruit Farm and Market on State Route 14 for many years ( now Stahl's Farm Market). Both were active in Kiwanis, FFA , Music Boosters, Farm Bureau and many other organizations. Mason served on the Southeast School Board. Eleanor was a teacher and served as the Edinburg Township Clerk. She also wrote the column, Edinburg News, for the Record Courier for many years. After Eleanor passed, she left the township a generous gift and her wishes were for the money to be used for the cemetery, park or Fire Department. After talking with Mason and Eleanor's daughter, Marti Hatcher, the Township Trustees decided to build the chapel. This chapel can be used by families for funeral services. Many times in the past family members had to hold a grave side service in inclement weather. The chapel overlooks the apple orchards that Mason and Eleanor farmed for many years. Many people donated their time and money to help complete the project. The Township Trustees felt it only appropriate that the chapel be named for Eleanor and Mason to show that, even after passing, they still are taking care of our community. |
