The installation and selection of a child restraint device may seem easy but, it is more difficult then you would think. Chances are your child is in a restraint that could be dangerous or worse . . . isn't in a restraint at all. Here are some facts and common recommendations:- Each step you take down the ladder of car seats; For example: First, the Infant seat then, a Convertible or Combination seat next, to a Booster seat and finally to a regular seat belt. These are not milestones to be celebrated in your child's life. In reality, their safety level is downgraded every time they “graduate” from a safety seat.
- Children should remain in the rear-facing position for as long as the safety seat will allow! Some convertible car seats can allow your child to be rear-facing up to 35 pounds or more! This is the safest way for your child to travel.
- Children in the forward-facing position should use a safety seat with a harness for as long as the harness fits and the weight limits are not exceeded.
- Once the weight limit is reached, a belt positioning booster seat should be used until your child is 8 to 10 years old!
- Every child safety seat passes the same crash tests! No matter if you spend $90 or $400 they are equally safe!!
- It is not recommended that you purchase a car seat at a garage sale or any seat that you do not know the history on 100%!! Car seats are made to go through one vehicle collision and the integrity of their safety up to standard.
