We are often asked why there is a frog on our fire trucks. Many years ago several firefighters decided that we needed a mascot. Over the years he was called many things but in 2012 there was a contest to select a name. Robert Grudosky one of the firefighters that helped with developing the image submitted Elmer, respectively after the first Edinburg Township Fire Chief Elmer Smolk.Today a plaque hangs in the fire station lobby that reads:
